Enterprise Centres Tasmania will be renamed and applications are now open for business advisors as part of the revitalised service, in a move to further support Tasmanian businesses.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is progressing the 2022 Enterprise Centres Tasmania review recommendations, with the renamed Tasmanian Business Advice Service beginning on 1 July 2023.

Applications to become an on-ground generalist business advisor as part of the service open today and close 12 April 2023.

Business advisory organisations are encouraged to apply, in addition to sole providers.

Minister for Small Business, Madeleine Ogilvie, said small businesses account for 97 per cent of all businesses in Tasmania and are the engine room of our economy.

“Tasmanian small businesses play an integral part in local economies and communities, and the Rockliff Liberal Government will always support them,” she said.

“That’s why we are bolstering and relaunching our business advisory services, to ensure small businesses can have more choice and control over accessing free business advice, whether that be online or face to face.

“The updated service will play a key role in delivering the objectives of the Small Business Growth Strategy 2026 by assisting to create an optimistic, resilient and collaborative small business sector that supports growth.”

The 2022 review made several recommendations, including to:

  • create a model that includes both generalist and specialist advisors to meet the needs of small businesses, including ensuring that Flinders and King Islands are catered for as regional specialisations;
  • develop an online business advice and support platform so Tasmanian small businesses can access up-to-date, self-guided and ongoing business advice, on demand; and
  • develop a range of specific supports for prospective businesses and start-ups, including online tools and information and workshops.

The existing Enterprise Centres Tasmania service will continue to be available until 30 June 2023.

Guidelines for the delivery of the new program are available on the Business Tasmania website.
